Safety standards for ships are tightening all the time.

One aspect of this is the classification authority’s requirement to comply with steel plate thickness guidelines in order to achieve seaworthy certification.

As experience has shown thickness measurement of the ships hull can reveal severely corroded steel plate to such an extent that the classification authority will ask for the effected parts to be changed or repaired. This inevitably results in extra time at the shipyard, increased costs and lost earnings for the shipping company.

Danish Thickness Measurement Service can help in reducing these disadvantages by carrying out thickness measurements at a very early stage in the inspection process, even before the shipyard has docked, i.e. still at sea. This enables the shipping company to plan ahead, reduce demurrage time and minimise any knock on effect in the ships onward sailing programme.

Our experienced operators are ready to carry out thickness measurements at short notice wherever a ship might be in the world – at a shipyard, in harbour or at sea. Immediately after the measurements have taken place a technical report is compiled and presented to the nominated classification authority.

Immediately after the ship has been inspected a report will be compiled using guidelines as set out in the relevant code of practice.

If your ship is on the way to a shipyard then consider having thickness measurement carried out in advance.
